“What do you want to be when you grow up?” is one of the most useless questions an adult can ask a child.
I remember how they’d always ask that question when I was young and clueless.
My response? — a footballer and if I didn’t want people looking at me like I stole one of their kidneys — I’ll say “a doctor”.
How can a 7-year-old possibly know what he wants to do with his life?
I don’t know about you — but I never thought of being someone who writes to YOU.
But look at me now — I’m doing it and enjoying it.
I also never thought I’ll still be living in my parent’s house at 27 — and getting shouted at like the patient dog that was promised the fattest bone.
but look at me — I’m presently there and taking disrespectful punches daily. I wonder when this round would be over. (no - not the physical ones. but I’ll be fine - at least that’s what my woman tells me😔).
Asking kids that dream killer question only gives them a wrong mindset to define themselves in terms of a career and a single identity.
But
What if their ideal job hasn’t been invented yet?
Who would have thought it would be possible to make a living out of making YouTube videos or writing on the internet?
What if they want to do more than one thing?
