Those were the words of Alex a Twitter-famous-marketer I admire.
I’m curious,
How do you meet people?
If you’re like most Normal people — you meet most of your friends; one-on-one, At an event, in a classroom, or at End Sars Protests.
I heard some lost focus at the protests and made babies too. Smh!
How are the kids now?
Anyway, we’re not about to bother ourselves with fornicators.
Are we?
For the rest of us who aren’t bold enough to physically meet people because we’ve been social-distancing even before a pandemic (sadly, we don’t get as much recognition as we should), we E-meet people instead.
Normal people think we’re depressed because who meets people only through the internet?
Well, me!
Some of us have even gone a step further - we’re not just seeking “you just forgot about me” type of friends but we want more!
We understand that as much as we want to blow - we need to be in people’s spaces who are doing what we’d one day love to do too (the network effect).
‘Connectional Intelligence’ is a thing. No, I’m not talking about opening an Instagram account today and guilt tripping your coursemates, grandma, and siblings to follow you just so you can brag you have fans.
What I’m talking about is something a bit different.
It’s making it a ‘love at first sight thing. Red lips, condom skirt, curly hair kinda drip!!
Before you get carried away, I mean putting ourselves in such a place where it’s almost hard for the other person to not respond.
Thankfully, there’s an example from a recent chat I had with someone I respect on Twitter:
So, here’s my style of using social media. The first thing I do when I get to a person’s profile is — scan for grammatical errors, punctuation errors, and rarely emoji errors (like Alex’s case).
I circle the problem and approach the door of their DM. Sometimes, I throw in a knock-knock joke to kick start the convo but Alex doesn’t look like someone who has time for that.
With a rose behind my back (a screenshot of the problem), I knock the door of the dm and hope to God the person screams “Yes!!!”. 🙏🏽
Thankfully, Alex did.
What’s beautiful is when the person changes it immediately.
It’s the little things that matter (even if it’s just a small bio-tweak), and sometimes, they even kick off a relationship we didn’t even think we needed.
