i’ll take this L

you log on to Twitter it’s someone quoting & celebrating a prophetic tweet they made some years ago that’s now a reality.

you check Instagram and its series of people putting up a 10/10 performance when in reality they live a powerful 2/10 life. 

you check Snapchat and it’s a Halloween party going on there, and living their best fake life. 

you check LinkedIn and guess what? Everyone’s celebrating a graduation, quitting their nightmare job, and landing their sweet-dream job. It’s a church out there. 

wherever you turn to—everyone seems to be winning. maybe we can have a platform where we strictly share L’s. (Oh no! Bad idea. There’ll be devilish false storytellers milking it for attention and profits). 

today’s about an L. My L. 

i didn’t want to apply but the name of this company “Let’s eat, grandma” compelled me. 

whose grandma? Mine? Yours? I gotta find out. 

can’t blame me for applying. Curiosity killed this cat. 

i remembered how rusty my Cover Letter was. Actually, it was a cut and paste. Of course, it had the “I work under pressure” phrase that everyone thinks makes them look most qualified. 

so, you know what? I decided to get into the Words-Kitchen and make something I’ll read if I was a recruiter. 

and here’s the finished product: 

before I hit send, I concluded I wasn’t writing this to get employed. I mean, if I got hired that’d be great for my bank account and my woman, but that wasn’t my goal. The goal was to get the HR reading it—to respond. 

and I got the response my ego craved for—in record time (under 2 hours of sending): 

sometimes we win, sometimes we ‘L’ose, and if we’re lucky—we ‘L’earn.
